NTI-tss stands for Nociceptive Inhibition of the Trigeminal Nerve as a Tension Suppression System, and it is presented in the form of a small acrylic device, custom-made for each patient and placed over the upper incisors. It contains a disocclusion element which, due to its particular shape, allows a single point of contact at the incisal level, thereby activating the inhibitory reflex. This reflex comes into play when nociceptive receptors register excessive pressure on the incisors, triggering an inhibition of the contraction of the mandibular elevator muscles. In this way, the NTI-tss system makes it possible to significantly reduce this parafunctional hyperactivity of the masticatory muscles by taking advantage of the inhibitory reflex of the trigeminal nerve.
Fields of application
Bruxism, SADAM syndrome, chronic headaches, and migraines. What do you think could be the common factor among these disorders that disrupt your patients’ lives? These symptoms originate from a chronic hyperactivity of the masticatory muscles, generally exacerbated during sleep, when it is uncontrollable.
Creating a disocclusion between both jaws, for example to prevent dental wear in patients who grind their teeth. Relaxation of the masticatory muscles by significantly reducing the patient’s ability to clench their teeth forcefully.
The Standard preform produces the greatest disocclusion of all NTI-tss preforms. Like all NTI-tss preforms, it can be reduced to best adapt it to the patient’s morphology and needs. It is also very practical when the dentist wishes to give a specific angle to the disocclusion element, such as in the case of tipped opposing teeth.
The Reduced Vertical Dimension preform is useful when a lower disocclusion height is required in order to avoid canine and molar interferences. Its particular geometry, with a convex occlusal surface, is highly appreciated by both dentists and patients, as it allows mandibular movements in all directions.
There are four different kits:
Starter Kit: 2 IGR splints and 3 Standard Wide splints
IGR Kit: 5 reduced-height splints
Standard Wide Kit: 5 wide splints of normal height
Daytime Kit: 5 thin reduced-height splints
(All kits include 5 transport cases and the corresponding thermoplastic material.)
